Kannawidan Ylocos Festival

This festival at the end of January celebrates the best of Ilocos Sur culture, from traditional dress and folk dance to tribal rituals and marching band contests.

Ilocos Sur is a beautiful province it is rich in culture that represents the ancient Spanish and Filipino heritage. Kannawidan is a festival that shows and shares their treasures to the whole world, the locals conceived a festival that highlights these cultural traditions.

This festival is an occasion to strengthen the Ilocano culture, recognize Ilocos Sur’s sons and daughters who brought honor to the province, celebrate abundant harvest.Tradition was also found in the culinary treats that residents from Ilocos Sur prepared including delicacies that Ilocos Sur is known for. Different Municipalities displayed products under the One-Town-One-Product booth inside the trade fair.

The opening of Kannawidan 2020 was started by the viewing of Dancing Fountain and lighting the Fireworks display at the Plaza Salcedo, in front of the Provincial Capitol. During the Festival there are different contests that focus to the ability and skills of the students. These are the traditional tribal rituals, choir and glee club competition, marching band contest, traditional music ensemble, dance drama, traditional and folk dances, contemporary dance competition, and street dancing showdown.

One mission of the festival is paying more attention to the children. Giving more attention to the traditions, songs, dances, and other Ilocano culture are not recognized by the younger generations of the province. Because many children are paying more attention to the modern and novelty dances they see television than the traditional ones. It is one of the reasons why the Kannadiwan Festival is conducted.

Truly Kannawidan is one of a kind Festival that exhibits the true colors of Kailocanoans.
Sure Ilocos Sur!

Last Reflection

REALIZATION                      4th Quarter isn’t that easy and I expected that. There are so many things to complete and pass before exams in order for us to graduate in junior high.    I encountered a lot of challenges but then I remained calm so that I won’t be stressed out. It’s hard to manage or balance my time for my studies, family and friends but I always think and believe that I can do this. I will do everything to complete all my requirements so that after passing all of those I will start hanging out with my family and friends.                        I learned a lot this last quarter and all of the lessons I learnt I will use this for me to be successful someday.  I will always remember all the memories during my junior high years. And to all the teachers I met and taught me a lot ...
